Now for the cleaning..I have to say this is the worst part of the rebuild for me..Now you have to clean all the parts & block & head SPOTLESSLY no use spending a wod of money on an engine if you dont clean it all properly..You can send it away to be chemicaly cleaned or do it your self which is what ive done, Using lots of degreaser & wire brushes..These are all the pics of the lot getting cleaned.. Some pics will show before & after..BUT make sure you clean all parts properly..

    Parts laid out after cleaning

Now painting of the block , head , sump & all other bits..

Its epoxy paint as it sets hard & lasts.

Alternator was pulled apart & cleaned with new brushes fitted & all painted.

Now this is a mod i do to the timing case as the seal will wear before you need to change the timing chain or the timing chain tensioner..This way when it does you only need to remove the fan belt & crank pully instead of removing the whole front of the engine..

First you need to drill the rivets from behind & remove the outer ring.

Now clean & counter sink the hole a little

Then get some epoxy. It looks like playdoh you knead it then fill the holes & it sets like steel..

    Sand & then paint

    Then fit seal

It make life easier down the track..

So lets now fit the new bearings & the crank..Making sure to fit the bearings in the corect way.You will notice if the wrong.Second & third pics show the right way. Second pic is in wrong third is the right way round.

Now sit the crank in place making sure to coat the bearings in a liberal amount of oil .Dont be scared use lots of oil here.& with new rear oil seal fitted to the crank.

    Front cap on

    Second cap on

Now the rear main bearing cap with the 2 corks one on each side. Fit the corks & put a small smear of light oil on them & use 2 feeler gauges with small amount of oil on them to fit the cap..

You have to take your time here or you will break the corks. Just light taps on the cap will get it done..

Crank fitted & bolts torqued up to corect tension.

Now for the pistons . Sorry i did'nt take many pics of this..

Fit the new rings , these are 40 tho over.Fit the new bearings & then fit pistons in the block using a ring compressor & again lots of oil & tap the pistons in..

I also honed the cylinders with a dunny brush style honer ..Looks like dunny brush with balls on the ends of the brushes..

Ok now for the cam & timing gears , lifters..I had new cam bearings fitted ealier & i dont have pics of them or fitting the cam..

So with the timing gears you have to line all you P marks up..

This one lines up with the keyway on the cam.

this one lines up with the cover bolt hole

First fitting to cam P mark on the keyway

    This one on the hole

Keyway on crank must be facing the top for top dead center

    Getting TDC

Setting all up & tensioner fitted

Then fit the timing case on..

Now fit the distributor drive , making sure to remove the grub screw under oil filter. & set the drive to the manual ,,This has to be right or it will be out & wont start at all..

    Lifters fitted
