You are most probably right.. I don't want to interfere too much on how it drives..

If you're not going secondhand then speak to a 'good' tyre dealer. A good one will listen and look after you in terms of what you want and a good price. Buying local is also important for aftersales support.

My Series 3 came with Chinese 16ply tyres, the previous owner commented about the poor ride. He purchased them because they were cheap and regretted the decision.
I have a brand new tyre left (was the spare). Tread pattern looks the business but........

I'll stick to the Dunlop's - they're an 8 ply and only a few bucks more.
I have the 7.50 16 Dunlop Road Grippers on my Defender 130 and they are a good long lasting tyre, and they are very cheap if you can catch a Tojo Canned Loser owner just as he is going to the tyre dealer for his mandatory fats and alloys- I got 5 off a ute with 400km on the clock with the rims for $300. They are a little puncture prone in the rough with rocks or stick stakes from the soft side walls but I have gotten 80000kms out of them on other leafs sprung Landrovers. I also run Trazano (CR581's I think they are called from memory) which are a little noisy but a lot more bush friendly on my Isuzu Landrover- they howl a little but who could tell with an Isuzuu anyway? They are very good so far having done 25000km with very little marking. I paid $170 each for them. If you can't find Trazano, ask for Westlake- same tyre, different brand. They are 10 ply and don't have the soft sidewall like the Dunlops. I also had a fabulous run from a set of GT Adventuro II's 10 ply using them on a coal mine and for long distance and got 80000km out of them- they are at home and still roadworthy on my Series 1. Make sure they are 10 ply though as the lesser lighter ones don't like dirt roads at all- the treads almost disappear from chewing. The GT's and the Trazanos were both 235 85 and are too wide for leaf sprung but they lasted longer than a very expensive set of Cooper STs (only 50000km) and were almost half the price of them. I picked up 5 brand new Roadgrippers ex-eBay for $125 a piece from a private seller late last year in Sydney. Nil use apart from the distance from the assembly line in Japan to the ship and from the local dealer to the tyre depot.
As for quality - OK. My brother-in-law runs ~five Landcruisers with his earthmoving business and has never had any great trouble with the standard tyres (or the Landcruisers for that matter I must confess).

Hi guys,
I have done what my heart told me to do so I went to Tempe Tyres and bought some BF Goodrich Mud KM2 285/65-16.
They do look awesome and fit the vehicle perfectly...but....
On full lock (only just a little bit) the front tyres are touching the leaf spring exactly on the screw just before the bushes.
As the problem is actually marginal (as I don't steer in full lock very often - only parking) do you guys think I can add some small spacers?
