What is your guys opinion on hilux axles and diffs under a swb?
I'll be using a centre drop transfer if I go this way

Wasn't the early Land Cruiser a RHS offset at the rear? You could maybe look at those?

    What about early Patrol?

I can get myself a hilux wreck for $300 complete front and rear axles and the power steering minus the pump. That's why I'm looking at hilux bits

The transfer will depend on which one I can get.
The 3l30/th180/trimatic can have either a suzuki vitara or a holden jackaroo transfer bolted to it easily.

I hear the Vitara transfer is very strong for its size.

I heard the same thing. As I'm only planning to do light 4wding in my SWB, I reckon the set up should work well.
I'm planning on bolting up a vitara 3l30 and transfer to the 186. Having hilux axles will give me centre diff and hand brake at the rear wheels.
    Hopefully it all works well.
