Thanks - my gaming prowess extends to Ducktales back on the old Nintendo (I think I still have it somewhere) :D
Ordered all the parts for the front end which I will have by the weekend, so we should be able to complete the steering (from the steering relay down), disk brakes, hubs, swivel seals, etc this weekend. :)
Then it's onto the firewall, power steering, brake and clutch master, etc.
Question for the brains trust please. While cleaning the swivel balls tonight and installing the new railko's is found a few very minor imperfections on the cromw ball. I've read a lot of threads on this about filling the pits with 2 part epoxy, etc but these blemishes are standing proud of the surface. It's like a bit of surface rust under the chrome if that makes sense? There are only a few about the size of a match head - they are in very good condition overall. These imperfections are in the path of the seal travel, so I need to fix them.
My first and only thought is to gently file them flat and being they will get oil on them as the steering is operated, this should keep them from rusting again?
Any other ideas or is that what you'd do?
Thats what i did with my swivlel balls. I used a brown abrasive 3m disc in a die grinder to "polish" the imperfections out. Some were hard to get rid off so i used a sanding disc in the same die grinder. I had a few minor rust pits in my swivels. They didnt leak after. The seal surfaces need to be as "flat" as possible to stop damaging the new seal.

Pros and cons?
There is no advantage - swivel oil level should be checked every service anyway, and this is not hard.
Disadvantages - parking on a side slope would eventually see the uphill swivel low on oil, and although this is probably not an issue, an unfixed leaky swivel or hub seal could eventually see the diff running low, which is an expensive situation.
It is a lot easier for contamination to get into the swivels, via the ball seal, flange gasket, hub seal, and if this happens, you really don't want it in the diff, which is not only more susceptible to damage from this (water, sand) as it has gears, but is more expensive to fix.
