When I got the pin out of the planetry gears, I noticed a couple of things.
One pin, was a split pin, the other just a pin, with nothing to really hold it in place.
The second was the wear marks on the pin. Any ideas why it has wear the way it has ???? polished on opposite sides, but not all the way round.
All gears seen to 'round' off. Is this normal, or wear ????

RH rear hub has a headache. Same side as worn Stub Axle and new shaft. Also this side of the diff seems to have most wear.
Lots of silicone, everywhere on this one. Even over the hub seal and shaft to try and stop it leaking !!!!!!t
I even wondered if they had oiled the stub axle collar. then silicone around seal. When set !!!!! drove it to Break the silicone/Shaft repair.
That's what it looks like to me.
One hole has stripped out the important threads. Lots and lots of silicone down these 6 holes.
I was starting to make/weld a longer bolt, made from two spare BSF hub bolts.
I have someone who had BSF taps, and If I had a half inch longer bolt, I could solve the problem. I then lost half my new bolt. Flicked into the garden. Not Happy Jan !!!!!!
My old 1960 Greeves Scottish Trials bike, uses BSF bolts. I bought a few, new, spare BSF bolts. 25 yrs ago. MMMMMmmmmm
A quick look and I found some. One was exactly the one I needed. A good afternoon. Now to drop hub off to get tapped to full Hole depth,
And NEW bolt will tighten down to same original thread length.
Then the rear axle can be mounted on the springs and start to be rebuilt.[biggrin]

The pin is tapped in and the shaft then pressed in so that the split-pin can be entered into the other side, this bends the pin. The bent pin can't come out one way because of the bend and the other way the angle of the groove the pin sits in stops it coming out (you need to have a diff centre in front of you to see what I mean).

The load on the pin is in one direction (thrust from the gears) so quite normal to see this sort of wear.

Hi,
Just wondering if the diff bearings are pushed on, or pressed on.
They are a bit hard to pull off.

I read the manual.
Bearings are pressed on. Now to get them off. Idea's ????
Rear diff and bits are coming together. Be nice if they come on a card, already done..
BSF threads all cleaned up in hub. The stripped hole, threaded to the bottom. Longer bolt bottoms when flange is fitted, so with spring washer added, will be a perfect fit.

Hi.
Whilst waiting for my UK bits to arrive, decided to have a go at making brake lines.
I was given a flaring kit from my mechanic before he passed away.
I had used it once, with his help, to make a new line for Gilbert, just to get him moving. Wished I had played more attention.
After many times, trying to work the faded instructions, and failed attempts with the old steel lines, I thought I may have worked it out.
6m of 3/8 Bundy Tubing, ($37) some new fittings, they only had 4 and recycled painted old ones, I set to work.
I tried to make a couple out the new tube and they looked ok. Guess I could waste couple of cm's.
I first cut with pipe cutter. Then de burred the outside, will a small file and ran a drill bit up the middle.
Then used tool and split die. One position sets the depth. the other end sets the first part of the flare. Then Double flare finishing tool ( the one with the point ) quick internal deburr, with the cutting tool point and all done. [thumbsupbig]

Rear Axle fitted, bubs on, brakeline made and fitted.
RH rear, could have been 2 inches longer. Might make another and replace.
Nice to fit new and restored/painted bits.
