    Good motor

    Hello from Brisbane.

The 2.5 litre motor, as noted, is relatively rare in Australia but is quite common in the UK, Europe and parts of Africa where they were used in the original County etc. The S3s were still being assembled here for about 18 months after production ceased in the UK, and most of the Australian trucks were using the Isuzu four or 2.6 litre six at that time.

On the whole they are a very good motor and you see a lot of old Countys, especially in Africa, still doing sterling service despite huge mileages.

I have scavenged a few bits off wrecks in Zimbabwe for my 2.25l motor - e.g. spin-off oil filter adapter and blanking plate off the block for the mechanical fuel pump - the 2.5 litre has an electric fuel pump.

    Cheers,

    Hi,
    Plastigauged the mains today.
    0.003 on all three.
    Manual says 0.0025 is max.
Will get the crank measured when it is out.
So maybe just new STD mains ???? where is best place to get them and conrod bearings ????
Conrod No 1 measured at 0.002.
Will look at the others tomorrow.
The two bolts holding the timing chain slipper had come out.
So the slipper and bolts may have been rattling around.
chain adjuster sprocket looks new, as does the chain.
The results of the bolts and slipper loose has resulted in four teeth breaking off, the camshaft sprocket. can it still be used as it is a double row sprocket, or do I need to replace it ????
    Will post a photo tomorrow.
    Thanks for the replies.

    Hi,
    Just a quick update.
Crank has measured up as standard, with No wear.
Looks like the camshaft is the same.
What thickness steel are you Guys using for the chassis and bulkhead, repairs ????
    Thanks for the replies.

I would be inclined to replace it, as it will wear the chain. And you really don't want to have to pull the engine apart again.

    Hi,
2 1/4 block back this week.
    All cleaned, 20 thou rebore.
A question about fitting the rear 'T' cork, main bearing cap seals.
Saw a post, using feeler gauges, on either side.
Do you side the seals down the feeler gauges, or slide the rear cap down with the feeler gauges ????
Do you add a small smear of light oil or some type of sealer ????
Using this colour on the block and head.

Auto barn has the full range.
    This for the Black parts.

The oil filler cap has been polished up.
What do members do to the cap. Paint or clear coat ????

    Hi,
    Just a quick question.
Should there be a washer/ Locking tab between the crankshaft pulley and the starter dog ????
If so where would I get one from.
    Thanks

Not that I can recall. I did the front seal on one of these engines not too long ago and it had nothing there.
