My next thought was to see why the New Ring wouldnt lock up the gear, so I marked first gear with a Large red marker pen.
I rotated new ring in position. red wore off slightly towards gear teeth. One little mark.
Will just post the two results.
New.
Another.
Dave does my membership need renewing, to solve this problem ?

Less pressure on the old ring whilst turning. and all three marks nearly wore off.
So now I am thinking the after market of rings of unknown origin, are causing the problem, and the brass particles are the rings bedding in ????
Thanks for your comments.

Wrong order.
Good Morning
I rebuilt a S2 fuel pump, and now fuel flow is much better. Can prime it up with priming lever, and pumps up hard.
I then pulled apart the rebuilt S3 on to try and find out what was going on.
Could this be the problem ????
I also sorted out the Zenith Hesitation problem, Turned out to be the accelerator pump was sticking. light clean with 1200 wet and dry, removed burrs, on cylinder and piston. Did pop ball bearing which vanished into the workshop floor somewhere. A spare Zenith had two fitted, for some reason ????, so used one of those, as the Manual only had one fitted.
Now accelerates from idle nicely.
Thanks.

After rebuilding 6000 miles ago, still have no syncro 1st &2nd.
Thought something may have bed in, but 100% sure its the AM Bulk rings, of unknown origin. Any other thoughts ?
I have a really good set of original ones, so I think its time to strip it down and put them in, as my partner would love a drive, but she is worried about crunching the gears, and breaking something..
What can be left together to remove main shaft, Slave clutch removed from bell housing, but full connected ?
transfer left all connected ? maybe a heavy lump but have a crane hoist.
Rear main shaft gear removed, to fit Fairey OD on reassembly.
Bell housing, remove lay shaft and tap main shaft out ?
Just dont want to break seals and gaskets I dont need to.
Thanks for comments and ideas.

Gearbox & transfer box can be lifted in/out with an engine crane.
You might want to use something stronger than the 'string' I used.....

I put it in complete
I just need to remove the main shaft. Two minute job to remove gears and fit good, old baulk rings.
Its all the other bits and time.
Just don't want to split, what i don't need to.

Thanks for all the comments.
Gilbert rolls again, with a full syncro gearbox. Smooth and quiet up and down the 4 gears.
Baulk rings appeared the problem.
Everything came apart and back together no problems. Didn't know is 1st gear would come out past the reverse gear, but as its not a fixed gear, dropped off the main shaft as I pulled it out.
3/4 a bit tighter than they were, but that may be lack a grease on the selector rod, as started to free up a bit , on the return trip from town.
How does the Transfer breath, as no holes on the square top plates ? Thinking must be common breather with the gearbox.
As for the Fairey, nice and smooth up and down, and no extra noises, so quiet.
Thanks Richie for the ASP. Wore food prep gloves. Interesting stuff..........
Trying to get the nut up to 100ftlbs. did it just, but was turning the motor over !!!!
Amazed how the revs dropped when into overdrive. Because I was lucky with a 'Good one' will only use it in 3/4 high range.
Will keep an eye on the oil over the next few weeks. Did notice the internal blue seal was double lipped an a little bit small ID.

Overdrive oil needs to be checked fairly frequently - the small reservoir means a leak that is trivial anywhere else will soon mean low oil. I extended the breather about two inches and fitted the breather off a Series axle because of a tendency of the breather to allow oil to be thrown out.
