?? Series 3 do not have an electric fan, or do you mean the heater fan?
Or are you talking about a Discovery 3 not a Series 3?
John
As above, when reversing, the reversing lights turn on and off with the fan. It seems that this only happens when the car is up to temperature, the lights stay on when the car has just been started.
The lights turn on and off with the fan when the car is warmed up.

You'll have to track down where the power for the electric fan is taken from, that might give us a clue.

All Series Landrovers have mechanical fans, although a few may have aftermarket electrical fans. It is difficult to guess where to look, but most likely a wiring problem - after all, it is at least thirty years old, and Lucas electrics were not renowned for reliability even when new.
If yours has an electric fan the wiring has clearly been modified in the last thirty or forty years, so it could be anything!
Sorry, I can't help

I have a series 3 1975 diesel with additional electric fan - Could the live feed to the fan have been taken from the live feed to the reverse lamp?
I love all these old series weird wiring stories. I've now counted 28 cut wires in the engine compartment alone - almost everything still works (lord knows how though). Let us know the outcome.

I'm fairly sure the bloke i bought it from re-wired the whole thing, considering he wired in a spot for a second batter.
Lots of dead ends on wires as well, hoping everything it working!
Haven't had much time to look over the wires, retail at Christmas time is exhausting.
understood - the Mrs is in retail and she's ready to throw a brick at the p.a if another Christmas song comes on (already!).
Re the wiring - at some point , I'm going to have to invest in a new loom rather than chase the wiring faults - I keep putting it off due to cost though, but its a false economy.
Good luck.

Come on in it must be a DIY on a Series unless of course you want to concourse it.Re the wiring - at some point , I'm going to have to invest in a new loom rather than chase the wiring faults - I keep putting it off due to cost though, but its a false economy.
My 77 RRC had 3 fuses.
I recall I had to rewire the headlights as they had the same bullet male connector on the parking light wire as the earth had and I did the inevitable and had to replace the wires to the LH headlight sidelight as they were crispy.
Now a D2 is a different kettle 'o' fish. I get nightmares just looking at it.
