Front and rears are the same on these. Bottom (black) spring runs between the shoes, and the top (red) spring runs from the backing plate to the shoe - behind the adjuster snail - See pic. The red spring pulls the shoe against the adjuster.

this is how I have it now. took a good guess.
with the red spring behind it just clears the hub.
Busy sunday - hope to get a go at the rear Monday.
Found a ser2A 109 axle with FWH at the farm. rear axle is different.
problem was the front drum and shoes.
the drum was loose until the screw was tightened. I left it out then the wheel on did the same.-so smarty put the old drum on and called the new ones cheap crap--exactly the same.
they had the same part numbers-same supplier. the front leading shoe was contacting on the top inch of the lining sudgesting it needed to be radius ground and designed for replacement in a vehicle with old drums.
ive been sanding of the high spots with a hack saw and it much better now.
The front and rear brakes are identical (88 up to July 1980). It is essential that the upper spring goes from the leading shoe to the backing plate and that the trailing shoe have the anchor on the bottom.
The leading shoe is the front shoe, i.e. LH on the LH side, RH on the RH side. According to the book the wheel cylinder spring is present on all wheel cylinders, and is intended to keep the trailing shoe virtually in contact with the drum, as the adjuster does for the leading shoe. Its absence will lead to problems.

replaced one wheel cyl, LHR as it been raining. been bogged in the back yard.now the front brakes are no longer locked.
drove it work today- the first pump of the pedal is hard, the second locks the rear wheels.
sometimes the pedal vibrates if I ride it and it looks as if the new LHR drum is out of round. have RHR to replace this weekend and I suspecting of the rear brake pipe too soft as it was spongy when I clamped it.
Up date this thread as it took some finding.
2 years ago I was struggling to get the brakes working. all much better now. last inspection I could not get it to pass rego brake test without working on it for a few days. I used a renovator sander to rough up the surfaces.
I replaced all 4 drums wheel cyl springs and shoes 2 years ago. These havnt really bed in yet. These drums have been poor quality. I cant leave the locking screws tight as the drums pull to one side on the flange.
I can see uneven markings on the mating flange I was thinking loose wheel nuts till it was on all 4 wheels. The flange might be warped but money is on the drum.
Wheel cyl purchased are same dia front rear. this is In the parts book. from latter discussion I think larger dia wheel cyl fitted to the front would be better to reduce the rear lock up.
I hoping that it wont lock the rear now I fitted a new tail shaft.
