    Flasher Unit replacement

I'm chasing some dodgy earths and while I'm behind the dash I thought I'd replace the flasher unit.
    Its a Lucas 8fl type 36 12v flasher (35048a 49 72). Its from my 109 1974.

    Its two pins.

As usual any suggestions gratefully received.
    cheers,

any of the supercheap or repco 2 pin flasher cans will do some of the three pins ones will work as well, look for the ones that have a power in out to the switch and a signal pin not one that has a requirement for an earth ti enable the flasher circuit.

And maybe run longer wires so you can mount it somewhere that is easy to replace and you can still hear the clicks as it operates...

I have had 2 die in the Stage 1 and it is a pain to remove the dash each time to replace them.

If you use a three pin flasher can, you can add a cheap 12V piezo buzzer (available at JayCar etc) to the third terminal and then you won't forget when you leave your blinker on!

Make sure that the third pin is a pilot lamp (I think that is "C") and not a trailer pilot (C2)

thanks for this. As I'm slowly getting to grips with various electrical issues - I'm thinking why didn't they do it this way and this is a right pain etc etc - but your flasher can idea escaped me. I certainly will do as you suggest. Good idea.

On placement of your flasher unit, some places produce more noise than others so if it's too quiet, maybe find somewhere that echoes more. On the other hand, if it sounds like Charlie with his hammer under the dash, just mount it on a bit of cardboard to mute the sound. Ahh, the things you learn messing with old cars that you wouldn't even come across with these modern crates.

its lovely and loud when the engines not running! I will have to find a better place for it though as I don't always pay attention to the flasher.

On your SIII don't you have the direction arrows on the instrument panel?

My problem is that on bright sunny days with the sides rolled up you don't always see the little arrows flashing, so I added the Piezo.

I'm currently installing a hazard lamp and want a flasher can that recognises a trailer with either incandescent and LED globes and will tolerate the load on all lamps when on hazard. The model I want is the Hella 3036 with 5 pins, but do you think I can find anyone that stocks it. Most auto parts stores wont order from Hella because they have a $500 minimum order.
