Spare Wheel Bonnet Clamp Bolt

The spare can't be mounted behind my seats, there's a cabin wall there :cool:

I'd consider fitting a bracket there to hold her upright in the tub but it's the only part of the tub that hasn't been mangled :eek:

Still, those are decisions I won't have to make for a long time yet and if I get sensible (and rich) and buy another tub, looking for one with a well might be a good move.

Hello Dark61,

On my trayback ute the spare wheel is mounted against the headboard on the passenger's side.

It does not take up much room standing up against the tray headboard.

The other option could be to visit a wreckers and grab the complete ratchet mechanism used to raise and lower the spare tyre that are held under trayback utes.

thanks Grommit . I should have said its a Truck Cab. I'm leaning toward bodging a bracket and just laying it down flat on the tray behind the cab - much easier to get the bonnet up and down.

I've decided to put it here until the Hernia calms down a bit and I can more easily put it back on the bonnet. I found a perfect nut and bolt in the spares tin and a bit of steel in the scrap bucket to use as a bracket so all good.

Just teasing and no, I don't have a problem with going for originality. That looks like a good solution. Bet this 'temporary' fix is still there when your kids restore the old girl in 25 years time (and will struggle to decide what to do because 'that's what dad did')

Looks like a good move.
I wonder where the spare went when you specified a flat bed tray from the factory ?
Did it go on the bonnet or under the tray like modern flat beds.

yep - I'm still sourcing the clamps , bolts and the rubbers and it will all get done properly at some point, in the meantime - this is the best option for me at the present. Hard up against the left you don't notice it so much in the rear-view.

In my experience it went on the bonnet - or where Dark61 has put it, although usually on the RH side, as it interferes less with rear vision, being directly behind the driver. I cannot remember ever seeing one under the tray.

that's interesting - I tried it behind me and thought I could see more of it in the rear-view, on the left , less so. This is in the garage mind , so I'll take it out on the road and see.
