What size tyres can I fit?

Firstly I would like to apologise to the 'Forum Lords' if this post is the wrong area.

I have a dilema with the wheels on my Series III 109. I have on it 235/85R16's and I like that size but, I'm needing a spare wheel/tyre and I have six good 7.50 x R16 rims with dodgy tyres, my question is what is the maximum sized tyre can I put on the 7.50 x R16 rims? I saw on an English website some people saying you can put 235/85R16's on them, is this true?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Nathan.

This was discussed a month or more back in one of the build threads and people were warning against going too fat - steering got too heavy. A search might dig it out. If I can remember where it was, I'll link to it.

    Here we go

    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/series-ii-...e-quality.html

It's in the Series 2 sub forum. It also talks about other stuff but you may find something of use/interest in there.

    This one I think.

If the link doesn't work, just type "big Tyres" in the search box bottom left.

Thanks for the link but, I couldn't find where it said what tyre could be fitted on to a 7.50R16 rim. I could see where they were talking about ride quality and sorts. Also my 7.50R16's are actually (approximately) 1" shorter in height than my 235/85R16's.

I wonder if I could fit 'safely' 235/85R16 tyre on the 7.50R16 rims. Unfortunately I don't know the rim width.

    Thanks

    Nathan.

If they are the standard rims for a lwb they are 5.5" wide - and probably have this stamped on them.

I found a stamped number on there and on a website it says my 7.50R16's are 5.5" wide rims and my 235/85R16's are 6.5" wide. I'll try to get the information up when I can.

    Thanks JDNSW.

You may find different information depending on which brand's website you look up.

On the Maxxis website, it says that 235/85R16s can be fitted on rims from 5.5" to 7".

    tyres and rims

Have a mate who has worked in the tyre industry for over 40 years
Looking at the into he has, the 235/85/16 is the closest thing to the 7.50/16
So that's what I will be putting on my series 3 SWB.

[FONT="Arial"][SIZE="2"]I was just looking at the ETyre Store website for comparison of the two tyres and I found the following:
