Got to be done hasn't it. If you get double the mpg going from a 186 to a 161 I should do better going from a 202. Hopefully all the fittings are similar. I have the Holden air cleaner - I want to reinstate the oil bath cleaner though.

Hello Dark,

The previous owner went over to the dark side and fitted a 202 cubic inch six cylinder motor out of an early HQ made between 1971 to 1974 . My Series III was originally fitted with the Land Rover 2.6 litre six cylinder in a LWB trayback ute.

Do you have a Land Rover 2.25 petrol which someone fitted the Holden Stromberg carburettor on? Or is yours an all Holden motor like mine?

My Series I has a Holden carby with an adjustable main jet.
I can confirm it doesn't like too steep a hill.

If you overhaul the carby don't fit one of the plastic accelerator pump seals. I split 3 before a local carby place found me a brass plunger with a leather seal, no problems since......

Hmmm maybe you should find yourself a 161 CI Holden carburettor, like 67Hardtop suggested :)

Not sure it would work for me fitting a 161 CI carburettor on my 202 though.

Since you have the original engine and not a holden why not put one of the original carbies back on? No problem then getting the jetting right or getting the right model of carbie. You have a choice of Solex, Zenith or Weber. The Zenith and Weber are pretty easy to get hold of both new and second hand with the Weber probably giving better economy and the Zenith slightly better performance. Or just bite the bullet and fuel inject it and then you never have any issues with steep slopes :twisted:.

I was tempted to put a Solex/Webber or Zenith back on but while I was chewing it over a Mate offered to sort me out with a 161. I'll let you know how it drives in comparison to what I had.

G'day Dark,

Just reviviing an old thread. I did an internet search for 2376878 and wound back here :0)

The black base of my carburettor where the mounting bolts to the inlet manifold secure through also has the 2376878 written large.

What was the number at the front of the carburettor just below the piece of angle that is held by two screws. Look down below the piece of angle and there should be a number that starts with "23".

My 2376878 is currently sitting on the bottom of 23-3092
