New series 3 owner in TAS need parts help please..

    Hi,

I have been lurking around your forum for the last couple of months- since buying my first land rover.. There is some great, helpful info on here! Thank you!

I have done a search and checked the vendor section with no luck, so I'm putting the call out to see if any of you can help.

The series 3 is my daily driver, and its broken.

I have no clutch pressure. I found the problem to be the flexible hose between the firewall and bell housing. I replaced it, bled the system and ended up with a great clutch.. until I went for a drive, parked in my driveway and found a puddle of fluid which had come from my slave cylinder!!

I have called Jag Spares in seven mile beach, they only have a master cylinder - no help. He assures me that no other supplier in Hobart will have one. Can you help? Is there anyone in TAS that will have a series 3 slave cylinder on the shelf?

    Thanks in advance

THat's a really nice looking S3- looks like mine...

I have dealt with these people
    Land Rover Parts - CLUTCH SLAVE CYL - L/ROVER S3 4 & 6 CYL +DEF (LT77+LT77S)
and they appear to have slave cylinders in stock and can freight them to you.
If the hose has gone and the slave cylinder too, then the master is probably not far off (unless you know it has been overhauled). It might pay you to get the master in as well to save on freight.
Probably wise to start checking out other rubber bits too- mine (a 1976 model) has progressively had all the rubber bits replaced. You might want to check out your brake slave, master, and flexible lines too. In spite of having the brakes "checked" before we toured Tasmania a couple years ago, we had slave cylinder and hose problems while in Tas and it is not a place for dodgy brakes... Luckily, thanks to "WrikleArthur's" help, we got most of it fixed while we were there, and completed the job when we got home.
    Cheers

    Thanks coop!

They definitely seem to have everything I need..

I was really hoping one of the forum members from TAS would chime in and tell me they know of a local guy who has one on the shelf so I could get it fixed this weekend..

Either way, it's not a major issue and I will be back on the road soon 👍🏽👍🏽

If you need the vehicle going ASAP you might get a seal kit for it to get you out of trouble until the new unit arrives. Try a motor spare shop like Bursons or Repco, or a Clutch and or Brake Specialist Shop. They may have a kit that will fit. Remove yours and then strip it down, clean it up with metho and take it into them.

    Cheers, Mick.

    Hello Claytron0

Just wondering if there is anyone in Tasmania who can re-sleeve the slave cylinder with stainless steel? It would prolong the life of your slave cylinder. While it a big upfront expense it will pay for itself in the long run.

    Kind Regards

Thanks Justin! Your workshop was actually the first place I called, with no luck. I have managed to organise another vehicle to use until the rover is back on the road so will order a new slave and master now.

I will also look into the stainless sleeve option.. Do you know of anyone locally who does this?

Also, I found on the land rover parts site that they supply a replacement original style bumper- does anyone have experience with these? they look good in the picture.
