    Chassis bush nightmare!

Hi peoples, I have joined this forum in the hope that someone can help me. I am trying to change all the bushes on an 83 discovery. Someone has had a go already and the left front chassis bush is half in half out and I cant get it to move either way. I have a high tensile 1/2" bolt going through it and I thought it would have moved fairly easily but no luck. Any ideas?
    Respect,
    Steve

Hi Ron, the bushes that go through the chassis at the rear of the front leaf springs.

Drill or burn the rubber out. Remove the inner piece and remains of the rubber. Using a hacksaw, make two parallel cuts about five millimetres apart. Revove the cut section, then collapse the rest of the bush.

You might want to confirm the vehicle you have, no discovery in 83 or with leaf springs.
Must be a series III Landrover probably a stage 1, V8 or isuzu diesel ?

Done this a few times and works well in lieu of a press.

Aha! It sounds like you might have a Series Land Rover or a Stage 1. LR changed to coil springs about that time.

When I did my springs, I drove them out with an air chisel. The repetitive striking action and the cutting tool made short work of it. See the right hand tool in the image below.

OK the car isn't mine, hence me probably getting the year/model wrong. It is a V8 and has leaf springs all around. I've been given the job of finishing installing new bushes in the chassis and the leaf springs, but someone has started the job already and has removed the old bush from the left hand side of the chassis and has the new bush half way in. As a last resort I can drill out and then cut the bush and just get another one, but I figured it should push in fairly easily but that was wishful thinking.
I cut up an old scissor jack and made a tool from the centre threaded shaft but it snapped, so I got some long high tensile 1/2"bolts and cut a thread in a thick steel plate to try to press it in but it wont move.
I guess I will need to cut it out, clean up the tube in the chassis and polish the new bush. Would it be necessary to put the bush in the freezer and maybe heat the chassis to increase my chances?
