For what it's worth, I don't think externally there is a difference.
If the drive shaft was there to see, that would tell.
I need a Stage 1 front diff housing.
How do I tell the difference between it and a normal Series 3 without stripping it to look at the CV,s?

Pretty sure they're the same.
Aside from that I can bring a stage one up on the 13th/14th to the Ho hars if you need.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
I presume from the question you actually mean a complete axle assembly, and like Diana, I think they look the same from the outside.
But I do think that with the swivel housing on full lock you should be able to see the U-joint through the level plug hole. (with a suitable light of course)

If you can turn it over, you maybe able to do a rev count and check the diff ratio as a clue at least.
Now I'm confused!
Keith: do you want a Stage 1 front diff/axle housing? (No diff, halfshafts or swivels)
Or
A complete Stage 1 front axle assembly? (everything hub to hub)
I can only supply the housing as I used the swivels and CV to retrofit to a SIIB.

Hi Keith
No I no longer have the complete car and in fact, as you'll see (above) I have already removed the swivels and CVs to use on Gog my SIIB so only have the actual axle housing (inner halfshafts and diff centre) left.
But if that's all you wanted happy to bring it up as ballast on the trailer, money not required.

Kieth, I believe it's pretty easy to tell the difference between standard and stage 1 axles by removing the hub cap and looking how the drive spline is attached to the drive hub. The stage 1 has a circlip and a shim washer behind it - the standard series III has a castle nut.
Cheers
