Series 3 Restoration from the Hunter Valley

Been Busy, With the Bulkhead. Have some UK fabricated footwells. I'd say worth every cent. Fit well and look great. I only get 2 hours a week to work on the bulkhead. Unless I escape the family on the weekend. Been a spray painter, really pays off.

So while at home, Breaking down the 2.25. The water pump! argh! look at this crap. Any idea's anyone? Its like a glassy substance.

I guess you can put water pump on my shopping list!

I think that is just rust. Pump could quite likely be saalvaged, but obviously easier to just fit a new pump.

As John said only rust.
I would say that will be all through the motor. I would be Removing the thermostat giving the engine block a real good flush. If you can find some one who has a reverse flushing tool that you could borrow so you can pressure wash the water jackets & remove some of the loose scale . May be even remove the welch plugs & stick a water blaster in them . you will find all the loose scale laying in the bottom of the jackets.

At a minimum, remove the block drain tap and run a hose through it.

You do not want that scale blocking up the radiator.

Fit one of these to collect the scale.

be careful if you have the Rover engine - there's not much room in the hose to fit the Tefba.
