Well, today was a day of dig through piles of parts bags to find brackets and what not that need cleaning, blasting, and painting. Did a couple of "tables" worth.
Here's the last lot in primer, (not too exciting to look at, and less exciting to clean, blast and paint!):

Track rod and drag link went on. I did a quick and dirty string alignment off the tyres, but I need to make some proper blocks up that sit against the rims. The thread pitch on the ball joints is about 1mm, so one full turn of the track rod should equal 2mm of toe in I guess :)

Sump come up alright, (there is a little bit of solvent pop, I think I used too much thinner for the heat today, so it'll get a quick sand and another coat)

Cheers,
Painting the insides of engine parts... what is the general consensus on this? For example the timing cover had a light coat of the (duck egg) blue paint. Is this paint necessary to prevent corrosion or seal up any porosity in the casting? Obviously with painting it you run the risk of the paint peeling off and contaminating the oil, even more so now with higher ethanol blends in petrol.
Short version, paint the inside bits of the engine, yes/no?
Cheers,
Hi Tim,
It is my understanding that the answer is NO...
Paint the outside, but not the inside... You can coat the inside with something like fish oil while you are waiting on re-assembly to prevent rusting, and then clean off when you need it.
Others will probably be along to contradict me! :wasntme:
PS - Great work BTW
As GG a said - No to paint in the engine, it will lead to trouble.
We will let you chrome plate the dipstick:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Thanks Andy, was wondering what was going to compliment the fuzzy dice :D
Swung by the paint supplier today and got some "BL engine blue", the colour looks pretty close to the paint on the PTO cover, (albeit a bit cleaner).

Wouldn't have been the first choice of colour I would have picked, but its "correct"
Cheers,
Edit, the colour on screen doesn't look quite right, I'll get a picture with my proper camera tomorrow.
