Can't wait to see what you choose. I am quite partial to Shaun the Sheep blue. Very fitting especially considering the whole sheep / NZ thing

Well, still no car, apparently it's been sent back for more cleaning a couple of times by AQIS.... I can see an enormous cleaning bill coming my way. (Better be spotless!!!).

Thanks for all the kind words,

    Cheers,

Have to make sure there is no sheep poo under the L/R . Can't have our sheep getting NZ sheep flu. Just kidding , when my brother went to NZ his son took a rock in his pocket , for some reason , that caused a few problems with customs inspectors . Hope you get it soon so we can see the rebuild.

Maybe they found the whittakers, rashuns, L&P, Fresh Up, pineapple lumps and watties sauce that you were trying to smuggle in!

    This is how it works.
2 Cars and a crate I imported I had fixed price that was probably inflated.
All 3 had different freight forward companies.
Cant ind a company interested in small jobs as its too hard for general public.

first car was sent for cleaning and was filthy when I picked it up.I went on a tilt tray to get it of the dock.then driven in Sydney to be cleaned.

second car impounded because it had no air conditioning.

The last one I was given the phone number of a government official with a note to supply needed information.. I rang as instructed and after they had a meltdown that I wasn't to contact them again as I was only unimportant general public--the crate arrived without import duty.

Well, the car has been cleared by AQIS, haven't got the bill yet, but I think it will resemble a phone number!

I had a container delivered at work today, truck driver was not a happy camper, the wharf is on their annual slowdown/pre-strike they have every year before xmas. Trucks are sitting outside the port for 3-5 hours waiting to do their pickups, and some are getting "late pick up fees" on top of the waiting time! No doubt this has contributed to the time it has taken for the car to get cleared.

So, the cleaning charge wasn't any near as bad as I expected, about $500. It only had one re-inspection, apparently they found some dirt in the rear cross-member....

After spending 2 weeks at the port I asked the manager(?) there if he was sick of looking at it, "hell no, it's already made me $20" was the response. Apparently his offsider took one look at it when it first arrived and said, "better go get the tow truck". The manager(?) replied "bet you $20 it starts first turn of the key". Which it did.

Anyway, its back at the workshop now, time for an assessment and a plan to get it on the road. Whilst it looks good from a far, it is far from good. Everything rubber needs replacing, some bad body repairs have been done in the past, it has a serious list to starboard, and after several rounds of "thorough" cleaning there isn't much paint left underneath.

On the plus side, there is very little rust, and the interior is in good shape, (the gauges need some attention). My first thoughts are to do a strip and rebuild, I don't want to take it too far from standard as it's in pretty original condition. I just want to make it "useable", and any input will be appreciated

    Cheers,
