Does this lamp mount look legal?

I mounted this recently (light on the right), I've had it a while, an old Francis spotlight.. originally mounted on a variety of military land rovers, as well as ferret cars etc.

Any ideas if this mounting is legal?

As far as I can see in QLD, as long as it's not using during driving, and doesn't protrude past wingmirrors (it doesn't), it should be fine.

Any one know any further details on this, or done anything similar?

Example of one from the UK:

Best guess is that it is illegal. The only way around it that I can think of is that you call it a work light. In which case, the switch to turn it on needs to be out of reach from the normal driving position. Hopefully someone else can add some more info.

I can't find anything for Queensland on worklights.

    You could start here:
Vehicle standards instructions (Department of Transport and Main Roads)

    Hmmm....
    Interesting reading there.

    More reading.
Light vehicle modifications (Department of Transport and Main Roads)

Doesn't say you can't have it.

Nothing in the edition 2 ADRs.

Lights must be mounted symmetrically. Did you read the docs properly?

To get around the rules by calling it a work light it needs to be facing rearwards.

So in short, it is illegal.

    Driving lamps.
Driving lamps must be installed symmetrically from the longitudinal centre line of the vehicle. If driving lamps are not fitted as pairs (e.g. one or three) they must also be fitted symmetrically about the longitudinal centre line of the vehicle.
This is not a driving lamp.

    Says who?

Most inspectors will call a forward facing white light a driving lamp.
