    Petrol Tank

    Hello All,

I noticed that the bottom of a Series III petrol tank is starting to de-laminate.

Is this the presence of rust forcing the two panels apart?

What is the recommended treatment for it?

Currently there are no leaks in the tank.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

Mine looked like that for about 25 years.

Isn't that just a protective plate under the tank?

    Hello VNX,

    Thanks for the reply.

Oh 25 years ... so not a have to fix tomorrow job then Still, while not rushing into it I might see what preventative measures could need to happen.

I have another fuel tank off a vehicle I bought for parts that had a layer of crud between fuel tank and the chassis along one side. When I took the tank off and cleaned it up I found a number of pin holes through the metal wall where the build up had been.

    Kind Regards

The bash plate is apparently soldered to the tank. Mine did this about twenty years ago - as the opening crack was an invitation for small stones, water, mud etc, I resecured it with silicone. That was nearly twenty years ago, still no issues after that period in regular use.
