the county shape got to modern for me and the penrite to expensive way over my budget, and both of them are full time 4wd which i don't like.

if the penrite was cheap i might consider only if was a selectable from 2wd to 4wd when you need it (or if you change it) and its a 3 Seater front LWB hardtop preferred.

and other reason like old series is that you can fold the front window down and change from hardtop to no top anytime. and old land rovers where geared down to do farm work as well pulling ploughs, running PTO tractor equipment (they where like a the old jeeps when they where used as tractors but the series better

i like them when in a movie such as "when the god has gone crazy" (African movie) and he did everything with it, he had cruise control, he took the roof off, he got stuck use the winch and went away and then the series climb the tree the car was in the air,
    also a series in cliffhanger

1st time I've heard a County called "too modern"!!!
Sounds like you might need to choose between a functional daily driver vehicle and a farm implement

I don't think your budget will stretch to cover everything on your list in one hit. If you spend $2K on the vehicle, your other $2K will go getting it roadworthy and registered.

2K won't go very far overhauling the motor either
Don't underestimate how much it costs to get a 40+ year old car back on the road

i rather have series then a county any day.

county does not have multiple gear sticks or it does not able have the front window down or its not able to be converted with a no top on and also you cant use like a tractor and also its full time 4wd

where the series can do it all and more, it looks more better to my eyes, its slow, and it will get you there where you need to go
(and when other people see it they will have pity on me or they think i am poor)

i don't really care if it does not have AC or electric windows or i don't mind if its got spring leafs and i don't mind its got no power stearing also

i just want a real mans car

and i do not want a simple soft baby weak lazy auto type car when it does it all for you

ive seen series 3 lwb hardtop 2door one for sale with a diesel motor in WA on gumtree cheap,
the only down side is that it does not come with a three seater front because some one change it look more fancer bucket seats and also it does not have a tyre mounted on the bonnet which i prefer and keep the inside free of tyres

for roadworthy that was not included from the start
and thats complusary anyway everyone has to pay for it no matter what,

so i always don't include that in a car cost
