Lots of white smoke and the truck had no power.
There was certainly a misfire somewhere so despite my reluctance i took the head off to check.
One of the push rods has broken. The brass tappet was only half there and yeah...stuffed.
So new sets of valves ordered. New tappets. New valve guides, seats, springs, gaskets.
The head went down to the shop to be cleaned properly

Do you know that the "hot spots" are supposed to be proud of the head surface? They can come loose, otherwise.

Well..... after getting the head back on and starting it up again there was yet another problem that was not there before
I know you're shocked.
This time the welch plug behind the timing cover and water pump has rusted through
I got the timing cover off and gave it all a good clean
Removed the remainder of the old plug. Gave it a good flush. New welch plug in place and put it all back together.
Let's see if the bugger starts now....

Lately, the starting point seems to be 2k
