Moved Finn back home over the weekend. Now I just need to find time to pull bits off him!
I'll see how I go. Finn has sat there for a year with only spiders really getting to him. If I think its a problem I'll probably buy a few tarps and rig them up, so that it's easily removable when I want.
I do plan to build a proper shed in the future. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Cheers
Dan

Dan deskining doors is quiet easy and allows for good access to knock out dents.
remove hinges and door handle.
drill out rivets holding on gal door capping and remove
then gently pry skin where it is folded over frame with an old chisel and pliers to about 90 degrees, door frame may have some sealant to skin but this bond breaks easily with carefull prying again.
the hardest part of the process will probably be removing door tops as the two pins rust in
Cheers Paul
Thanks Paul,
Those tips will come in handy.
As its only the bottoms of the door frames that are rusty, my plan was to peel the bottom and sides off, insert some sort of protection between the skin and frame and skip the drilling of rivets etc. I really like to patina on the exterior and want to try and keep it exactly as is. Reckon that would work?
I will probably need to swap the door tops with a spare set I have, as the bailey channel (I think that's what it's called?) is rusted through. Though I might try and repair that too as the door frames are colour (and patina) matched.
Still trying to find a spare afternoon to go out and put him up on jack stands and remove the wheels, to make it look like something's happening!
Cheers

Dan your idea could work but I've found once the skin comes off it uncovers all sorts of nasties
I get what you are saying about patina the only rivets that would be noticed are the ones around the door handle apature the others are hidden by capping or hold capping on. Maybe you could dull them up with a cotton bud and some form of acid. Full removal of skin would make repair a lot easier and you could then paint frame properly before reassembly.
Grommit put me onto pouring paint inside the frame to help curb rust.
Door top skins are easy too if you look at your door tops closely you will see the skins come off in sections from memory four, they could be fitted to your new door tops
Cheers Paul
PS thumbnails are of a vehicle I have that I would like to keep patina. Time will tell
Looks like some of that patina is algae haha.
Thanks heaps for your help. We'll see how I go.

Well, I finally got started on tearing things apart. It's only been 5 years .
Bonnet off
Right wing gone
Front end gone
Some interesting things I found:
Rust in the drivers footwell (yay)
And my battery holder is made of rusty steel and a parking sign
Hope to get some more done this weekend!
Cheers

Does anyone know where to get a seal kit for the steering box?
It has slowly leaked all over the inner fender. Thankfully it has kept the rust at bay in that area but it's probably something I don't want leaking.

I think the only seal is the one on the Pitman shaft. It may be leaking from one of the gaskets, and it may also be spillage from topping up. But remembering that the oil you see has accumulated over fifty years, and that checking the steering box oil level is part of the service, it is probably not a serious concern.

It's a O-ring on the output shaft, these go hard with old age (there's probably a joke there somewhere), and leak. The box has to be taken apart to fit a 20cent O-ring.
Otherwise as John stated, gaskets top & bottom plus the side cover.
Pretty much every Series Land Rover steering box I've worked on looked the same, hopefully it had some oil left in it.
