Help with Safari Wagon research

Hi Colin
That's her. I have the chassis number from the plate above the gearbox tunnel. The bigger issue is the missing compliance plate with manufacturing date.
I'm just hoping that someone here might have picked her up as a project before it went to the bloke I got it from.

Yes that's right Melbourne to Korong Vale.
I appreciate the links. I'll follow them up and see what I can determine. I'll report back once I know more on replacement plates.

Back to the original question....maybe an advert in a local paper (around Emerald) would turn up someone who knows it's history. Did the seller have any details of where it came from, I'm sure it was from Melbourne and then went to Korong Vale.

I reckon you would have to swap the chassis and the compliance plate from a donor vehicle to make sure it was legal. If I can't get a replacement made I guess that might be an option.
The compliance plate is the one that is missing. It is a real pain. I'll double check next time that it is actually in the box of spares.

The compliance plate is not the same as the LR nomenclature plate that is on most series vehicles. This is the compliance plate off my 72 series 3 - note it has the VIN/Chassis number on it and outlines the ADRs that the vehicle complies with - not a lot back then.

A google search throws up people who have registered vehicles without the compliance plate, the important thing seems to be proof of previous registration.

Best of luck with it. I parted out a 1972 wagon same colour a while back, if I hadn't had that one on the driveway I would have purchased the one you now have.......

As Colin as mentioned if you have a full registration history you will get it registered with a roadworthy being done through a garage. The chassis number should provide the clue to the build month and year (Calvin?) However I doubt you have that history so the vehicle will have to go to the new RTA facility at Hume for its identity check and road worthy.

My Haflinger, 101 and Jag do not have compliance plates but I have previous registration histories on all so no issue.

As has been discussed I am sure there is a process to get a new compliance plate issued and should be straight forward - I would ring Canberra Connect and ask to be put through to Tech Standards who can advise the process.

In Qld if you know the origional rego no or have an origional sticker you don't have any nproblems with rego

Not quite true as the original rego number has to still be in the Qld system - I am on an other forum right now and a guy is trying to get a Haflinger registered again after many years. He has the rego number and pics of the vehicle with the plates on it and rego label etc and has shown the authorities the information but because the rego number is no longer in their system (or so they say) they will not register it until various information is supplied about the construction of the vehicle. If accepted it may only be granted C (Construction) class rego not full rego. Sounds like bureaucracy gone made.

So Qld can be a bit iffy.

My 80 still had a rego stick er on it when I first registered it about 30 years ago & they looked yo the number on the micro fish & found when it was first registered & who to but would not tell me any of the details.[bigsad] They may not have any of the micro fish now & if they do no one would know what to do with them.
