Maybe contact the Parks Dept and see if they have a historian or a Public Relations Officer. They may have some pictures or details stashed away somewhere in their archives.

Mick - currently it’s getting a birthday for a blue slip. Let the rego lapse about 3 or 4 years ago. Time to get it back on the road and out bush again.

Sorry I'm no help after early 1973 when Land Rover distribution was moved from Grenville Motors to Leyland Australia subsidiary "Leyland Truck and Bus".
At first glance I would suggest that colour was Department of Civil Aviation. They used to maintain the navigation aids located in various remote locations in SWB Landies.
I don't remember NP&WS Land Rovers in yellow, in the 1970's they were usually "Spanish Olive" and only going to white in the 1980's.
That particular vehicle with apparently galvanised 6.5' FC rims looks to me to be the vehicle owned by Alan Ladd a LROC Sydney member in the 1970s and 1980s. He fitted a LH fuel tank, tool brackets and water tank to his ex-DCA 88.
Diana, Truck & Bus was not a subsidiary of Leyland Australia until it was merged with the car division after 1974 to use the the profits of the profitable Truck & Bus to prop up the failing car division. Leyland Truck & Bus Australia had its own board of directors reporting directly to London.Quote:

I agree with Lots of Landies, It presents like a ex Civil Aviation vehicle, I bought a similar S3 long wheel base, with winch, two fuel tanks, skid plates or protection plates under vehicle
with only 5,000 on the clock, as new condition, was an ex Civil Aviation vehicle when the Commonwealth Government auctioned vehicles and equipment at Cannon Hill, Brisbane.
There was also a beautiful Dodge power wagon, with winch, yellow in colour at the same auction.
In those days an auction of Commonwealth vehicles or equipment, was a true auction, the price you paid for the item was the price you bid, just that, the highest bid, no add on's
All commission, advertising, etc were met by the Commonwealth (Vendor) or the organising disposing of the property.
Them were the days.
Contacted the NPWS, no help, claim they have no records from 1974?
