Factory mod to weld the plates on ready for when the springs flatten & the spring eye hits the chassis ?

Not so much when the spring flattens, as when it is run with the bush gone, or with the top leaf broken.
So i shouldn’t worry to much about it?
No, I wouldn't worry. It may be a repair where the spring has damaged the chassis.
But odd that it's exactly the same as the one I parted out. Same profile same holes.Quote:

So, got some more done. Front end is basically bare. New front spring hangers on the way. Did notice the LHS is 10mm shorter from spring mount to shackle mount. Will sort that when the new bits go on. Steering relay stuck solid, made up a puller to try to get it out to no avail, soaked in WD and will try again later.
Dash all out, fount a bit more rust. Lower dash/tray also fairly rusty, looks like more than a few generations of rats been living there too. Removed a cover sheet that someone had fitted to the LHS footwell, to find they had cut a large hole the for whatever reason.
Removed the towball mount, to find rust in the rear cross member that i didn't really want to find. I was hoping to leave the body on, but with the rear cross member requiring work, i'm guessing taking it off will be easier. Least get to paint it properly i guess.
For the steering relay, try working rust between the body and the chassis tube with a broken hacksaw blade as well as plenty of penetrating oil. Should be able to get in both top and bottom, after the locating ring at the bottom is removed.
The hole in the footwell is probably where someone cut rust out, I'm guessing. And possibly also cut out an attempt at welding repairs by an inexpert welder!

Entire body off now, both diffs and springs out, just gbox and transfer remain. Blew bucket loads of red dirt outta chassis and pressure washed. LH dumb iron cut off and new one tacked on. Unsure what to do with rear crossmember, either repair the rust or fabricate a new one from rhs.
Got he LHS dumb iron finished, and decided to tackle getting the relay out.
I had cut the retaining tabs off the chassis and dug in beside it and sprayed with wd every day. Tried the puller again wih no joy. Welded up a jig off the chassis and put a 10T bottle jack in there. Crossmember bent and buckled, but the relay stayed put.
Out with the grinder..........
