Can someone explain, Anti Bust Door Locks, to me please ????
Thank You.
Lewy110, you maybe better with some sort of 'Dry Lub' like graphite powder. Wont attract the dust. The problem may return with lanotec spray.

It's getting to the point that I can hardly open my drivers door. The handle is really stiff even when the door is open and you manually lock it.
Can you fix these or do I need a new one?
EDIT: The magic of lanotec lanolin spray and sitting in the sun has fixed my problem.

The Series I & II had a simple door latch similar to a latch on a house door.
A bit of body twist or too much force as someone leans against the door and it 'bursts' open.
Series III onwards have a the anti-burst lock where it latches round a pin with a lip so it can't accidentally release.
You can update an early vehicle to anti burst Series Anti Burst Door Conversion Kit Includes Handles Strikers Locks + Free Step Drill or just be aware that doors can open without warning !

Can one achieve the same improvement by replacing S2/2a doors latched with S3 ones ?
Thanks
John
The above link was for a conversion kit for SII to SIII anti-burst.
If you change to SIII doors you have to change the latch (that bolts onto the B pillar) and also modify the door stay. Someone makes brackets that will adapt the door stay, just can't remember where I've seen them......
Found it Door Check Strap Conversion

Hello from Brisbane.
Using that particular eBay kit and getting the door handle bits off a Series 3 is to follow pretty much the same procedure - about the only apparent difference seems to be that the kit has the extra bits for making the key holes in the door panels.
Otherwise, the parts appear to really be just the standard Series 3 anti-burst handle mechanisms, the door pillar latches, lock barrels and keys and the plastic trims that fit the lock aperture in the door panel.
The need for a latch conversion would only be relevant if you are using the complete door.
Cheers,
Neil
Just note that the anti-burst locks were not fitted to all Series 3. When they were fitted seems to depend on local regulation. In Australia, I think it was early in Series 3 production.
