    Should I be so crazy.....

So on the hunt for a Defender tank, I get offered this. I haven't seen it yet... Tomorrow is the day I go and look at it. It will cost about 500 dollars to get it home, its about 100 kms from home.

Its sitting on a property and history is unknown. Belongs to friend of a friend. They have no papers or history of the old girl. But said just come and take it away.

Unfortunately it appears to have aftermarket seats and the red motor. I have been told red motor is useless as it wont run on unleaded well.

Thinking to make it a ute and use it for my water carting duties...

Is the $500 the only cost? Grab it. You could clean it up and sell it on here !

Red motors run fine on unleaded with the right valve seats and a little play around with the timing.

IMO your biggest issue will be rust, looking at those pics. I'd still grab it though.

AFAIK, yes. Others here will know more. Nothing is unfixable though. I believe Series cars are increasing in value. ( I hope so, as I have a SIII tray down the back...)

    Bzzzz,,, wrong

And when you do decide to let it go, if it's going to be really really expensive, like the Rangie,,, let me know

NTG, depending on what you want it for, as John says, a bit of TLC. The only thing that might be a real issue will be if the firewall is rusted right out. But, even then, if you just want it on a property, unregistered, you could fix it up enough to be safe, even if its not "Land Rover" right, if you get what I mean.

    Cheers All.

Not sure what I will do with it, but I am in the Top End of Australia... So hard to ship parts.

I am considering my options on a 130 or 142.... Actually have drawings for the 142 and CAD drawings for metal work. So the rear come in handy to bolt up for the rear.

Marcus, I was in grief at the time. I still am, as it happens. I wish I'd sold that car to you or Tom. I reckon Tom would have outbid you.

No, the Series III I have an idea of the value of, but you are welcome to drive all the way here again to make me an offer...
