What is likely to give the best outcome, put a kit through my Solex, or replace it?
Assuming replacement, what is the best option; a Webber I guess from the preceding conversation, better than a Zenith copy?

Mark, I think the Solex might be hard to get parts for, hopefully I am wrong, because I have a 2A that needs a carburettor that works.

The Weber is the latest carburettor fitted to this engine, but suffers from the installation being designed when emissions restrictions were really starting to bite. I also suspect some of the ones being sold are optimised for the 2.5l engine that was not sold here.

With the new Webber carb fuel use has gone from 5.8 K’s to the litre with the worn out solex to 7.5K’s to the litre. I can go over most hills now in overdrive, before I was back to top gear or maybe even 3rd.

Joe Hawkes from Airlie Beach absolutely swears by fitting an 1 3/4" SU to the series 2.25 litre engine. You need one from a wrecker that was on an Austin 1800 for preference says Joe. You will need to cut out two flanges from light plate and acquire a 90 degree bend then weld them together. Joe is a highly skilled engineer and knows his stuff. If you need a two stroke Detroit Diesel tuned or tickled up then Joe is your man.
SU adaptors on two and a quarters.
