More into less - track rod length?

    Hello from Brisbane.

Quick question on the correct setting (tie rod centre to tie rod centre) for the track rod on a Series 3 88". Ditto the drag link and the steering box to relay rod.

The official LR workshop manual advice for setting the track rod specifies ~1031 to 1033mm centre to centre, whereas the track rod tube off my truck without the tie rods is 1100mm....

The front axle assembly may have come off a 109" truck at some stage in its life - is there a difference in the length of the rods and settings between the 88" and 109" trucks?

Would add that the drag link and box to relay tubes off my truck can be set the length specified in the workshop manual - presuming it is correct.

Note also that the three rod tubes are all of the fully threaded type.

    Cheers,

    Neil

Wouldn’t these be setup/checked after install....I.e. wheel alignment and steering wheel centered therefore close enough should be ok

    Hello again.

Likely to be so at the end of the day - but the workshop manual does specify tie rod centre to tie rod centre settings within reasonably narrow tolerances. In the case of the track rod off my truck not possible to meet being nearly 67mm longer in the tube alone than the centre to centre spec which includes the tie rod ends.

Presumably there was some underlying reason for the specs in the minds of the engineers who handed them down - or a misprint.

    Hence the original question.

    Cheers,

    Neil
