Have you checked the diaphragms? I have had problems with my V8 running very poorly / just no grunt. Both times the issue was - 1 of the diaphragms was split, effectively running on 1 carb..
Im after some Carby advice. Ive tuned my stage one V8, new leads and plugs, new electronic dizzy fitted and just fitted a high flow 2.5in exhaust, but it is still very gutless to drive. This ute is on 7.50/16 tyres with Range Rover high range gears, but it just seems very lethargic..im wondering if anyone has fitted a Holley or Weber carb or if its a waste of time and I should stick to the originals?

Another option - and google is your friend, Stage One’s came out of the factory with a limiter on the carbs due to the drum brakes.. This can be removed apparently, although I have never done it myself..

Improving the Stage One V8
Power: As standard, the V8 is fitted with restrictors between the carburettors and manifold to reduce power to 90 bhp. Land Rover felt that any more would make the vehicle too fast for the brakes and suspension. The restrictors are quite easy to remove. Take off the carburettors and you will see the restrictors. They are held in with snap rings, and can usually be levered out using a thin bladed screwdriver. Take care not to damage the manifold, and fit new carb to manifold gaskets on reassembly. This modification will take the engine to standard Range Rover tune (135 bhp).
If all the tuning related issues have been done and the lethargy remains then I think you need to look at the camshaft and lifters - they can wear and the valves not open all the way so limiting power.
Is a relatively common issue on higher mileage RV8s.
Yes modern Holly/Weber carbs work and there are offroad versions but really if the carbs you have are in top condition then they will work perfectly and provide all the power you want.

I am still running standard carbies and I am pretty sure the restrictors have been removed.
I do have an extra 400cc's but it has no trouble overtaking from about 60kmh to 100kmh uphill.
Thanks for the info, might put a kit through the carbies to see if any improvements..the restrictors have been removed. Is it possible or is
there any gain to putting 3.9 heads on a 3.5?
