Fitting a gear to the mainshaft

    Hi all.
I am rebuilding a box (# 94113770A) for my s3 and have hit a snag. I have a new part, 57625 (Mainshaft), and a new part 283608 (First/second speed synchroniser and reverse gear). The new gear doesn't slide onto the mainshaft, it gets about a third of the way on and jams up. The old gear slides onto the new shaft, and the new gear slides onto the old mainshaft, but the two new parts do not want to party. Has anyone come across this before or have any advice for a fix?
    Thanks

there will be a burr or deformation in the shaft.

get some bearing blue or blue texta paint the shaft and slide the gear on, where it fouls will leave a distinct line.

    gentle filing will remove it.

if the gear sticks before the shaft protrudes then it can be one side of the gear.

you might get away with putting it on in a different orientation.

    failing that.

FBH and a block of wood.

    Thanks for that guys.

It was part 608283, not sure how i got that wrong, and thanks for the references.
I got the parts from John Craddock LTD in the UK.

Whitehillbilly64, any chance you could compare your new shaft and let me know the shape of the bits the cog (608283) sits on? My new shaft (on the right) has knobs that are much more chamfered and have more of a radius onto the splines. The new shaft is also missing the (oil feed?) hole shown on the left of your photo, which my old shaft also has. Could they have sent me a mainshaft from a different suffix box?

Blknight.aus, the interference is coming from the cogs teeth not having enough of a chamfer relative to the radius where the splines meet the shaft. All the teeth on the cog seem to have the same chamfer and the shaft is showing marks on all the splines (but that may be because i've tried every orientation). The FBH was what i was arriving at haha, this is the first gearbox that i've attempted to rebuild, will it be okay to smack it on as only the outer part of the synchro needs to move?
