    Newbie questions

    Hi Guys

Ive just bought a series 3 SWB and Im trying to get it up to rego. I have a chassis number and no other plates on the car. The vendor said it was a '71 and I'm wondering how he got to reach that conclusion ??

Chassis number is 90301157A on rear left spring hanger.

Also im trying to match the paint but want to retain the patina so I was wondering about matt paint given its very faded and want to confirm its Land Rover pastel green and what code I should be offering. I was going to get the local Auto One store mix up a can ..

So if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

    Regards Andrew

The colour looks like Spanish Olive, a Leyland colour (Mini's, Rovers etc. had this colour as an option).
There is a thread I started years back on the paint code, I'll have to search when I'm home tonight.

Search CALVIN and Land Rover and you will come up with a site in the Netherlands that has a section where you can input the chassis number. It won't give an exact date but will give you a span of a few years.

If you have it's old rego plate do a rego search. It might come up and give you the year that's on the database.

Edit : Found the post, only took a few seconds.....Spanish Olive paint code

    Hello from Brisbane.

Australia was relatively late in getting the Series 3 trucks - we had a 1972 S2A. So, I would be a bit surprised if it actually was a 1971 model.

Likewise, I thought the Spanish Olive colour came later in the Series 3 model run - around the time that the golds changed and wheels went from Limestone to silver. The photos look to be the lighter green that the early S3 88”’s came in - don’t recall the name.

Age can be a bit of an odd thing - the PO of my truck was adamant that it was January 1974, whereas it turned out on investigation to be April 1975.

    Cheers,

    Neil
