Good Luck.

Reading the rebirth of "Gilbert" by whitehillbilly64 it inspired me to start writing our story.... well time will tell if it is going to be a story or the "dead" of me.
The "Players"
- "muppet" my 14yr old daughter who roped me into it. She fell in love with the Landrover Defenders series 3. As a dad, I am ok with that... the longer the two-legged variety "lovers" stay away from my Daughter, the better it is. (I think every dad thinks like that :-)).
- "Sandy Landy", a long wheel based laro we picked up, it was just one of the better ones we could find. It is a 1978 build, two fuel tanks, water tank, Holden 186 engine and is raised. Overall a nice car.
- The "Old man", that be me... No idea about laro's, generally confusing my capabilities with my ambitions and in general.... well... just having a go at everything.

Muppet wants to know all about the car, and the agreement is that she will work side by side with me to fix this thing.... (I am pretty proud at that...).

We found some rust.... so time for a strip down.
Completellystrippedandcleaning.jpg
Took the whole thing appart, soaked it in degrease and presure hosed it down.... we found a fair bit of stuff that needs fixing.... so the journey begins. I will have a lot and a lot of questions........
Wish us luck :-).
Good Luck.

Ok been a while, we are building (finally).
Put a restored bulkhead on, and now we are onto the attaching of the wires.... needless to say this will be a challange especially due to the "handy" work that has happened in the past.... wires going everywhere.....
I used this and my manual.

See if this can help you with wiring and good luck I like you are working on Series 3 with daughter, small hiccup at present with health but all going well will be back on project in a couple of weeks.

Good to hear you are on the mend health wise....
I think we found a "home" for most wires, tomorrow we will hook up some LED for the dashboard panel lights and we should have most connected. I am planning to roll it out of the shed on Saturday, have a firehoses ready and see what happens when we hook the battery up..... (Which I will watch from a great distance LOL).
Some update photo's... we been working on the dash.
Added USB charge ports, as kids need usb charge ports ...
Disconnected the inspection light connections and moved them to a more modern 12V power connection.
Ok big win this morning...
Got the horn going... needless to say that all communcation from now on in is non-verbal.....
Tidied up the wiring in the engine bay, put a bigger size wire from the alternator to the battery as that one was a bit dodgy.
The kid started sanding the doors... so we can prime them... very excited stuff.
Finally...
After fully redoing the bulkhead, riggers front and back. Soldering up the fuel tank as it was leaking like a sponge. Removing the old "custom wiring", respray... we have ignition.....
Got the lights working the way the supposed to be and have the blinkers going blink blink blink... that is a good sign.

Almost there... the "muppet" turns 16 this month (11/11) so she already had a crash course in driving up and down the drive way.... Must say... priceless..... Makes a dad proud.
