    Anyone recognise this part?

I’ve inherited this part, and was told it was off a Series 3, but I can’t find anything on the internet to tell what it is - it looks like it could be an oil tank or something. I don’t have a use for it but was going to try to sell or swap it rather than going to scrap (note if no pics show up it means I am struggling to work this out...I am bit of a newb to this...give me some time...)

    without seeing the pic.

    bet its a vac tank.

edit, it might also be the vapour recovery tank.

the former looks like a small compressor tank with an external flange around its long axis.

the latter comes in 3 or 4 flavors I know of

    a wedge shaped tank,
a ball shaped tank thingy that kind of looks like a fat UFO
a carbon canister cylinder (although IMHO these are all aftermarket fits)
a long tube about an inch in diameter and a foot long that fits on the vapour line. (I dont think this one is factory either)

Thanks for the preliminary guesses...a bit hard without photos though. Hopefully this works, and the pics appear. Not sure how to do this from my phone-

    vapour recovery tank.

from memory it plumbs into the tank breather that returns to the top of the fillerneck.

I removed mine when taking off the tub, wasn’t plumbed in and I don’t have a charcoal filter installed. Wasn’t planning on putting it back or running any tubing.
    Is it actually needed?
