    Oil cooler hoses

Just recently had a near miss with the S3 2.6.
One of the flex hoses to the oil cooler split, emptied the sump in about 5 minutes. Oil EVERYWHERE.
The hoses are rubber with steel braid covering, and with a spiral wire outer covering over that, so you can't see the rubber.
I have realised that these hoses are probably 39 years old!!
I fitted a new oil pressure switch last year because the old one was leaking oil and not working.
    Glad I did.
    Replace those hoses!

Had a similar problem a few years back. Someone had a new set of hoses they sent me then I picked up a spare set at Cooma.
Potential problem is ......when did they stop making them ? Are the replacements as old as the old ones that failed ?

The alternative is to re-use the fittings and get some new hoses crimped on at a hydraulic hose company. I did look into this but they couldn't match the steel braid/spiral wire covering.

I had the local hydraulics mob supply low pressure hydraulic hose and reuse the end fittings.
The oil pressure is less than 5 bar which is trivial in the hydraulics industry. I think the supplied hose is rated to 20 bar, it is just neoprene with an internal fabric braid.
I think the steel braid and outer wire spiral is unnecessary, I made sure the new hose was well clear of the exhaust and unable to rub against anything.
