Seatbelt fitters in Melbourne

Hello Slugbait,

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, but the back of the landy was ankle-deep in bits while my gearbox was out... then I forgot. [bawl]

Anyway, for the record, here are some details of the three individual row 2 seats:

Each individual seat has a lap sash belt, bolted to the floor behind the seat.

• The centre seat is locked into its sitting position by either side seat locked into its sitting position alongside. Either side seat is locked into its sitting position by a sprung bolt on its outside. This means that one side seat can be fully stowed, or all three seats must be fully stowed.
• The seat backs hinge forward individually.
• The seats stow by rolling forward on hinges at the bottom of their front legs.
• In 1971-72, there was no obligation to have seat belts in row 2.

This is almost certainly too late to be of any use to you, but it's now posted for future use.

In Victoria seatbelts are required in the centre row from 1/1/71 (Check VicRoads VSI 21).

Thanks Colin, I hadn't realised that!

I've done a quick look around: the Brisbane Tmes said that mandatory belt wearing came into force in Qld in 1972, however other sources said it was mandatory in SA and Vic in 1971.

The best source that I found was here in this historical report. In particular, Table 6 on (paper) page 16 shows that the design rules for rear seat belts existed by January 1971, and the conclusion is very interesting as well.

I know that Tallulah has been registered in the ACT for over 25 years, and I think she was in NSW before then. She clearly hasn't lived on the coast anywhere.[thumbsupbig]

Belts to all seating positions became mandatory on 1/1/71.

It is important to realise that the dates for fitting and for wearing seat belts were not the same. And varied from state to state. And for type of vehicle.

Thanks Mike.

Mine has a bench seat in the 2nd row and I think it is supposed to have Lap Sash on the sides and just a lap in the middle.
