looks like an interesting project. i used to go to Marshalls garage, at Burringbar, to get various bits and pieces, they had a shed full of landy stuff. Old Barry, was a font of landy info, i dont know if he is still around. Might pay to give them a call.

    Hi Nick,

You asked about seatbelts and soft top together.

I think the best solution that I have been is a bar sold in the UK to provide a lap sash top mounting point. But I don't know whether is is Aust. design approved, so may be best thing is to register it with the hardtop, then remove the hardtop later

The problem is then - what can be done?
If the Holden motor is to be kept, then it might take some very careful measurement of engine, adapter and gearbox bolting and shaft location to work out where the problem lies. I would imagine that the adapters were made 'flat' and did not introduce an angular misalignment, so more likely they had a parallel offset due to bolting location.
When industrial motor/pumps need coupling alignment its straight forward, but motor/gearbox alignment is not designed to be adjustable or measurable.
An out of centre adaptor plate can be centered - there was a thread somewhere on how to check and correct this but can't recall if it was here or another forum to be honest - will have a look.

I had exactly this issue when I stuck a 202 in my 2A shorty 30 years ago - after chewing out a second box, we discovered the issue and corrected it by oversizing the holes and using dowels to locate the adapter. All we had was a dial indicator on a mag base and a lot of head scratching but we got there and the next box lived a long and happy life behind a very healthy 202.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Nice tidy little unit you have there.
Back in the day (1960's, 70's, 80's) there were a lot of engine conversion adapter plates made up to re-power
Series Land Rovers with all sorts of engines, and Holden straight six engines were a very common conversion.
There were a lot of varied conversion kits/adapter plates made up, local mechanics/garages fabricated them,
commercial professionally made kits like Johnsons from Geelong, and some even re-drilled the standard Series
Land Rover flywheel housing and bolted it up to the Holden engine, this being a very simple conversion, however
accuracy was an issue as there was not a spigot or dowels to locate it. The Johnson kits were very good quality
and i have had several vehicles with them and no gearbox issues at all. I have had my current daily driver over
twenty years and it has the Holden conversion long before that, and i have not had any gearbox issues.
You must keep in mind these vehicles are getting on in age so you need to be sympathetic towards how you drive
them. A lot of Series Land Rovers have had engine conversions way longer than they ever had their original motor.
There were Land Rover Dealers who even fitted Holden conversions to new vehicles prior to delivery to the customer
as per the customers instructions, usually long wheel base vehicles for farmers.

Just a few things on your vehicle, the handbrake boot is on about face, i doubt that toe hitch on the front bumper bar
will get through a roadworthy certificate either.
Is that a compliance plate of some sort on the bulkhead at the back of the motor?

If you go to the top of the page and click on Series Land Rovers, then click on Holden Powered Land Rand Rovers,
at the top of that page, you will find information on checking alignment of an engine conversion.

    Good luck and cheers, Mick.

    Hi John.
Marshalls garage have scrapped a lot of stuff.
Not much any good left. Charlie, who now owns it, wants a job lot price on whats left.
Too many floods went through things, over the years. Debbie hit them hard.
Still see Barry, from time to time, in MooBall.
