I am looking at buying a 1977 Series III for around $20,000 what should check before purchasing.
At that price it would want to be in virtually perfect condition, and registered.
Worth having a read of as much of the Series 3 section on this forum as you can wade through.
Probably the worst issues you are likely to find are rust in the chassis and firewall. But as I said, at that price it would have to be something very special.
Series 3 are not really collectible yet, and I would raise my eyebrows at anything going for more than around $10,000.
Having said that, there are a few rare models that could command higher prices, as could one with a special history.

Thanks heaps for getting back to me. What’s the big difference with the Game versions. I know it hasn’t got any rust and it has rego and also a road worthy to come with it from NSW. Seems allot but have been looking a while now and seems like they are around 18- 20 for the good ones with no work needed.
Just wondering if you could give me any ideas where I can look for other Series III. So I can do some comparisons in price.
Thanks for your reply's helps heaps.
I am with Pop - given your response, you really do need to do a lot more homework.
Find out what they sell for not what they are listed at - note how long the higher priced ones are listed for and you see they rarely sell and are listed for a very long time.
The Game version are considered to be higher priced because they were a limited run at the end of the Series 3. Because they are rarer, look a bit different they are considered more collectable sellers charge more - but underneath they are the same as other later series 3s.

If thats the one is TAS, its a great looking vehicle because of the paint and a good example but I don't think it's $20k, especially since some of the vinyl has cracking, there is a bit of rust and considering its proximity to the sea and its use as a boat launcher I suspect you would need an extremely good look around it for rust especially the firewall where I think it looks like something is going on and chassis. There is clearly a lot of work that has gone into it, I just don't see $20k in it. Shortys go quickly these day for about $4000 up and the Games go for more - check its legit a Game on the plate. If you really want it, its probably the best Game I've seen for a long time, but talk him down a lot lot lot!
