I would think you could heat up some plastic hose in boiling water & force it over the flange to fill in the grove then trim it with a knife.
Nylon is thermoplastic I believe, so it could have been fitted with just the right temperature.
I've got it on an '81 gearlever.

I'm pretty certain I've seen it described as nylon, but that does not mean it actually is nylon!

The truck’s a ‘73 Siii 2.6 and it’s having a similar problem to that described, where it typically get’s stuck in third. Which I suspected to the the synchro springs but they all seem fine.
However, the lever is very loose in the selector ‘knuckles’ and can escape the third/fourth selector and get trapped by the first/second (I’d take a picture but the selectors are currently out of the gearbox).
I presume that this lever should also have a bush of some kind, nylon, polyurethane etc. but certainly not an o-ring, there’s no groove at all for it.
I’ll probably get a new nylon bush made for it and pop it over the end.

I'm pretty certain that Series 1,2,2a and possibly early 3 did not have anything, and were not a close fit in the selector. The only reason for the nylon bush on the end of the lever is to stop it rattling, which it only does anyway in special circumstances (unless the spring holding the ball in place is too weak).
Its introduction was part of the "gentrification" of what was designed as a work vehicle in an era when rattles were simply not a consideration for this class of use.

I wonder if you could modify something from another manufacturer. Here, for example, is the bush from a BW Single Rail. Not saying it would fit, but there are plenty of gearboxes with a ball on the selector lever. ( The bush pictured actually doesn't go there )

I also can't see any obstacle to the bush being split if it's flexible enough.
