Now. I looks like it has 2 speed wiper switch on my series 3. Should I expect the switch has 3 positions? Position 1 is off, position 2 is speed 1 and position 3 is speed 2?

I notice it only has 2 positions and only has 3 pin at the back of the switch.

Anyone can explain how this switch work to control the wiper motor? Thanks

    winscreen wiper conrol logic

    Hello 1408,

I initially had wiring and control issues with my '71 Station wagon. It seems that a few British Leyland car wiper motors of that era would 'nearly' fit into a Landy. I might have initially had a Morris Marina or a jaguar motor in mine, and the wiper blades insisted in parking in weird, random and incorrect places until I replaced the motor and its connection to the push-pull drive to the blades, and it has since worked fine.

Anyway, the motor has 3 wires, earth, +12 volts whenever the ignition is on which parks the blades once the switch is off, and +12 volts provided from the switch to make the wiper blades flap around in the normal manner.

the knobby wiper switch on the bottom right of the dash has a cable that accepts +12 volts when the ignition is on, which connects to the wire that goes to th motor when the knob is turned clockwise, and makes the wiper blades flap around. The remaining switch connection is connected to +12 volts when the knobby button is pushed, and connects to the screen washer. The connecting wire goes forwards past thee battery location, and crosses in front of the radiator in the harness at the top and goes to the washer motor. Note that the washer hose can disconnect in front of the dash, and provide an ankle shower for the driver and front passenger instead... I gave up with the original installation at this point.

    Cheers, Cerise

I just have a flip switch, it goes on and off no multiple settings in relation to speed etc.
