    Pleasant surprise from Shannons Insurance

    Thought I might mention this as its never happened before - at least to me.
    I have the "77 SWB insured with them ( its on club plates) with an agreed value of $14k, which I would consider fair given the time & $$ spent on it, if i had to sell it, then I can only hope to get that value.
    Renewal time and Shannons put up the annual cost by $4.00 - to be expected- but they also revalued the old girl up by $600 !!!, but not the Defender...
    Wonders will never cease...

    I spoke to Shannons at renewal time a few weeks ago and they agreed to increase my 17 year old Defender's value by $5000 at an increase of $32 on the premium.

    I changed to Shannons last year because my original insurer would only value the Defender at about half of what Shannons have now covered it for and at a cheaper premium to boot!

    So another 'plug' for Shannons.

    Yes, my 101’s value increased $2,400 this year - for an extra $45 for the year. 👍

    I have been looking at insurances,to insure our new vehicle.

    I looked at Shannons,and found this ,

    You must:
    • take all reasonable precautions to prevent damage or theft, for example:
    − move your vehicle away from rising waters including tides;
    − do not drive into water;

    The last one had me slightly worried.

    Sure driving into deep water or water that has a large current is not taking reasonable precautions,but does it mean do not drive into water,at all?

    Owning a 4WD,and having taken reasonable precautions,we have driven into water many times,it appears in this policy its not allowed,at all?

    i rang them,and they basically said,no you cannot drive into water,as the policy says.

    Thoughts anyone?

    I moved onto another company,similar cost,without this clause,although they have a larger excess for water damage,which is fine by me.

    Horses for courses I guess. Water is not really going to affect a series Landie to the degree of a newer vehicle, heck it gets hosed out.. On the positive side it would keep the premiums down for others with classic vehicles.

    Agreed, even if mine spent a week at the bottom of a dam or river it wouldn’t take much to get it running again. Pleasant surprise from Shannons Insurance

    Had a previous vehicle spend 3 nights against a tree in a river with only the roof top showing as it flooded after it got stuck. Once the floodwaters subsided we towed it home, cleaned it out, changed the oils and off it went again happily (apart from the radio - that never worked again) and the seat was a bit squishy for a could of weeks.

    Sure with an older vehicle no worries at all,but with a newer vehicle lots of worries.

    My father drowned a new Series 3 in Ellie ck on Frazer island.Two high tides went over the vehicle before it was recovered.
    It had the fluids replaced,and a few other little things done and it was back on the road in days.
    And also a sticker fitted inside above the windscreen noting it had a new name “ yellow submarine”

    I don't have any vehicles new enough to be worried by that clause but if you do, and it's likely to be an issue then yeah, I'd look elsewhere.
