The square vent is used on caravans - while certainly not stanard, people fit them to increase air circulation.

The skirts are missing - often they get damanged, and I am guessing that is what happened with yours.

The Series II had a deeper skirt, the Series III has a shallower one. From memory there are 2 or 3 brackets that they attach to (the brackets are also often missing).

Roof vents were optional on Series Landrovers and were fitted as standard to station wagons, at least part of the time, but these are not the factory ones - the idea wasprobably copied from them though.

The 'skirts' or sill panels were fitted to most Series 2, 2a, 3 Landrovers, but were omitted from some, including Australian military ones, and since they are very prone to damage, were often removed. They come in two widths, described as 'wide' and 'narrow', with the 'wide' being the ones that were first introduced with Series 2. The narrower ones were introduced during Series 2a production, but no changeover date or suffix is specified in the parts book, and almost certainly this depended on where it was built as well as when.

They are not as simple as just a folded bit of sheet, There are multiple stampings of alloy, shaped and spot welded together.

My old series 3 had roof vents from the factory (eg not aftermarket) just behind the top of the windscreen. The tropical roof even has cutouts for them unlike station wagons where they open under the tropical roof.

They were a Landrover option (although probably dealer fitted), and that picture shows the difference between the factory ones and the ones shown at the top of the thread - round ends, which probably are easier to make watertight. The cutouts in the tropical roof are probably done by the dealer because the station wagon tropical roof with the bulges for the vents was not available.
