    Fairey Overdrive pictures and questions

I’m about to start the FO rebuild and would like a little guidance please.

This clutch sleeve is obviously past its use by. Is there a preferred supplier at a reasonable price?
The main shaft is in only marginally better condition so that also is on the shopping list.

Any ideas what the reference (3.8302) scribed onto the housing is?

Any opinions on the teeth on the output gear, they are slightly worn.

Does anyone run a breather system as in photo above. From the OD to the transfer case then? (not sure if it goes to the gearbox or a reservoir).
Is it better to get the bearings from CBC or the like, or just get a complete kit?
Also what cleaning fluid do people use in their parts cleaners.
i have not stripped the insides out yet that will be in the next couple of days.
Any information and comments welcomed and appreciated.

Replace it. I used Rovers Down South, but I am not sure they survived Katrina.

    yes.

    No

These would be serviceable for a long time, but probably noisy, whether in direct or overdrive.

That looks to go into the gearbox. I raised the breather on mine a couple of inches as it had a tendency to lose oil through the breather, and topped it with a Series axle breather fitting. It has a couple of bends to avoid the underseat tool tray.

Is it better to get the bearings from CBC or the like, or just get a complete kit?

If you can get them from a local supplier by sample it will be a lot cheaper, but some of the bearings are special and hard to find.

Also what cleaning fluid do people use in their parts cleaners.

I don't have a parts cleaner, but I use mineral turps for parts cleaning.

    Good morning.
I have used Syncrogearboxes, but thrust bearings came from Dingocroft. Very happy with both. Large front bearing from Repco.
My Overdrive has similar numbers. No real answers but may be build date/number. Mine is made by SuperWinch who bought out fairey.
As John mention they weep from the breather. I added breathers. Small fuel filter reversed on the end and Flyscreen mesh to stop the mud wasps.
Mine migrates oil from transfer into overdrive. Normally the other way round. Settles around 800 mls.
Wear means noise. Mate of mine had one that squealed like a banshee, unlike my nice quiet one. Thicker oil may help with noise.
I use Turps, Fuel, and spray cleaners from Repco, Supercheap, Auto barn. Use gloves and mask.

I got all my spares through this business and they are great to deal. After initial cleaning I give them 5min in the ultra sonic cleaner and a final (spray-) degreaser treatment. Casings are getting plastic blasted. This one is a Toro but runs partial on Fairey parts. m

    100inch.
Gavin at GLF contacted me after parts purchased.
He missed my email. I think the website on checkout said 'Does not post to Australia, but he does.
I think he supplies the others with parts ????

Thanks to you all for the replies.
Your detailed information, contacts, useful tips and observations are very much appreciated.
