    Hi all
been on this site for a while but haven't posted in years , bought a 53 80 about 7 years ago 85% complete but not running ,the bulkhead outrigger was bent and a bit of rust in the chassis + motor and gearbox need rebuilding.
So i Stripped it down repaired the chassis and started to stockpile parts i needed. That as far as i got At the time i was 5 on 5 off mining . Since then I've gone back into my trade and started my own plumbing business + had a couple of kids
and doing reno on my house. Anyway in the week before christmas finished building a big shed in back yard and was about to take the chassis down there and start rebuilding the 80 after 7 odd years.
Got a phone call from a bloke who new i had a defender telling me he had something i mite be interested in.Long story short i wasn't really after a series 3 but it was to good to let go so now I've got another Land rover

Hi after a bit of expertise

Starting to tidy the old girl up , apparently the reason it was parked up 25 odd years ago was the brake master cylinder failed.
by the look of it mine was the system with the shared reservoir for the brake and clutch master cylinders, but the clutch cylinder in it now which look to be busted has its own reservoir would that be original or not ?
id like to keep the ute as original as possible . So my question is do i go back to the two cylinders with the one reservoir,or is having the two cylinders with there own reservoir a huge improvement over the original ?

    Thanks in advance

From memory, the dual brake/clutch fill bottle was SII. SIII had separate bottles. I've a SIII parts manual here and it only lists separate bottles directly attached to their respective master cylinders.

For a Series 3 just buy good quality trailer master cylinders from Repco or Burson's for about $35 each.
The only difference is you will have to swap the rods over from your old master cylinders.

That's interesting Shane, I have replaced a few of mine (late 2A and S3) both clutch and brake master cylinders
with trailer type and never had any issues.

    Cheers, Mick.
