    Unhappy Rear Suspension Too High?

    Hi folks,

Trying to work out a weird one with my Series 3.

The rear suspension is up quite high - probably about 3-5 inches higher than my other truck.

It came with the long military rear shackles and I assumed this was the problem. I've changed these and the issue remains.

It has defender shocks fitted but these seem to be sitting at the same length as the series shocks. The springs also seem to be identical to the other truck.

I'm pretty sure the ride height is effecting the performance and handling. Plus it looks terrible.

I've done a lot of work on the truck since I took the picture below so it looks a lot better/different - but the ride height is shown clearly and hasn't changed.

Has anyone come across this before?

Difficult to tell from the picture, but it looks as if the shackle is still too long.

However, there are three other possibilities.
    1. The springs have the wrong camber.
    2. This is the result of heavy duty rear springs, unloaded, and possibly standard or sagged front springs (or abnormal load at the front such as a diesel on petrol springs).
    3. The shackles were tightened before the vehicle weight was on them and it had been driven a short distance to settle the springs.

Other relatively unlikely possibilities could be badly repaired chassis or worn bushes on the front springs.

Wow - thanks so much John. Super helpful.

I'll check all of these issues on the weekend. I've been reading up about camber and I have a feeling these might be heavy duty springs. But given the general nature of the work done to the poor girl I think it's likely everything was over tightened before being allowed to settle. I did let the shackles I replaced sit before I tightened them but I didn't got for a drive. I suppose if all the other parts were not let to settle it'd pull the new shackles off too.

Cool - a good list to go over.
