    Round head or pop rivets

    Hi all,

I was wondering on Series 3, in particular on the top tub capping (along the sides), where the door skins are riveted to the door frame around the handles, and the tailgate, whether they left the factory with pop rivets or the solid round head rivets I have on my Series 2a. I have two Series 3 here, and both have pop rivets at these locations.

I’ve trawled through trying to find an answer to this, but it seems for every picture of a Series 3 by the time I zoom in the see the rivets they are just coarse pixels. Hopefully someone can illuminate me Round head or pop rivets

    Cheers, Matt

I am not exactly sure , but if there is access to both sides of the rivet for installation they are normally round head rivets , if access only possible on one side then a heavy duty pop rivet was used

I think they were pop rivets (sealed) on Series III. Solid rivets were Series I, II & IIa.

Similarly on bonnets it changed to pop rivets by Series III.

When exactly the change occurred and whether local production was different to UK is up for discussion.

Looked at my Series III shorty and almost all pop rivets.

On the tailgate the rubbing strips on the inside are held in with solid rivets where both sides show (round head on the outside) and pop rivets where you cant get to the other side.
