2.6 engine for my Series 3 109 tray

Removed the side cover off the engine I plan on fitting into my Series Ute. Was pleasantly surprised to see the interior is so clean and this engine has been sitting in the car under a tree for over 20 years. Also of great surprise is the main jet on the carburettor is an external adjustable main jet, might not mean much to some but after all the tuning drama I had with my daughters car with fixed internal jets this is a god send to me. Just checked the gearbox internals and they are like new got it in time i think the oil has leaked out through the bottom pan gasket by the looks as it is nearly empty but i will replace the seals and thrust bearing for the clutch and call it good to go.

Someone recently let me know that the metal shim headgasket can be obtained locally for the 6-cyl motor.
You can also get a gasket set through Paddocks in the UK, again with the metal shim gasket.

I did read that the composite gasket gave better results but you might struggle to get one. Mind you, a mate with a 3.0 litre rover has no problems with the shim gaskets.

The 2.6 is apparently thirsty, run it lean and you burn out exhaust valves.

    I'm collecting a spare 2.6 soon.....I think I'm becoming a hoarder !

Always nice when the inside of the motor is cleaner than the outside! Be aware that not all of the gaskets fit from the Paddocks set. I purchased a few kits earlier this year and the thermostat housing, water pump and timing cover gaskets were incorrect in both sets, and lot of the required sized crush washers were missing (with a lot of incorrect ones left over with no apparent home).

Let us know when you get it fired up [emoji106]
