SIII civilian to military gearbox filler?

    Hi All,

Years ago I had my Lightweight SIII gearbox reconditioned. Little did I know that the “plan” was exchange with a recon rather than recon my one.
All good except! - The replacement casing has no oil filler cap on the top.
Does anyone know what lies under the “Welch plug” (I know it’s not one, but best I could think of) that has I think a tiny breather hole in it, on the top cover of the civilian one? If I get the plug out, is there a seat for the military type cap underneath? EDIT I BELIEVE IT IS POSSIBLE TO JUST REMOVE THE PLATE/plug thingy…

I have the cap and the retainer spring from a military one to install.

The part number for the cap seems to be frc4060 - but these, online, and mine, seem to be missing the plastic breather “button” in their top centre that I recall on my original one. Can anyone confirm that their series gearbox oil filler cap has this button/breather in the middle of the cap? Or just a hole?

I’m also looking for the “bolt in a bolt” top cover bolt that also holds the top cover “oil filler cap retaining spring”. Anyone know where one might get one of these bolts in Australia?

    Cheers,
    Dave
